- Special
Advocate Program: Delaware's
Court Appointed Special Advocate Program is searching for
men and women willing to volunteer to work with children
when they appear in Family Court. The Advocates are
trained to represent the best interests of abused,
neglected, or dependent children when they are the
subject of court hearings. Volunteers are court officials
who also conduct independent investigations into the
child's life and present their findings to judges in
written reports and oral testimony. For more information,

- Delaware
Nature Society: Volunteers Needed in the nature
store to greet and assist customers, arrange and maintain
displays. Call (302) 239-2334.
- Easter
Seal Rehabilitation Center: Volunteers will work side
by side with therapist (physical, occupational, speech
and early childhood educators) in Bright Beginnings
groups, some individual treatment and assist with the
setup and breakdown of activities. The potential
volunteer will also assist in the Bright Beginnings
groups with their daily activities. Also available for
volunteers is work in the office of our therapy
department. This includes photocopying, filing, compiling
information packets on services and therapy projects.
Volunteers also needed to work with our marketing
assistant. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30
p.m.; Wednesday 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
- Greater
Wilmington Convention & Visitors Bureau: Volunteers needed with
strong interpersonal skills and knowledge of area
attractions who can give clear directions and commit to
at least 2 days a month (Monday thru Friday, 10 a.m. to 3
p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) Basic computer skills
desirable but not mandatory. Free parking. Two-day

- Independent
Living Inc.: Volunteers needed to renovate a
house. Walls need to be cleaned and spackled before being
painted and carpets need to be cleaned after the

- YWCA-Youth
Residential Program: Volunteers needed to paint rooms,
preferably during business hours or weekends. Call (302)

- Blood
Bank of Delaware-Eastern Shore: Daytime and evening
volunteers needed for blood donation centers in
Wilmington, Newark, Dover and Georgetown. Monitor donors
after they give blood and serve light refreshments.

- Creative
Grandparenting Inc.: In-school mentors for elementary
age children needed. Through current school year. Call

- The
Brandywine Zoo: Volunteers needed to teach visitors
about the Brandywine Zoo, animals and wildlife
conservation. Weekends and weekdays. Two-week training

- Children
& Families First: Volunteers needed for the REACH for
Healthier Kids Van, a new community outreach program for
young children, their parents and child-care providers.
Drivers, information and referral specialists, activity
assistants, toy drive coordinators and people who enjoy
children needed. The REACH Van visits the
Claymont/Knollwood and Brookmont Farms/Bear communities
each week. Other communities in Wilmington will be added.

- Helping
One Student to Succeed (HOSTS): Mentors help children read

- READ-ALOUD: Read to pre-school age
children one-on-one in day-care centers and nursery

- Meals
on Wheels Delaware: Volunteers
needed to deliver hot noon meals to homebound seniors
throughout the state Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to
1 p.m., once a week or once a month. Schedules flexible.

- The
Domestic Violence Advocacy Center: Volunteers needed for
Victim Advocacy Programs in Family Court. Upon completion
of two days training, advocates will assist domestic
violence victims with safety planning, referrals to
community-based services, assistance with filing Family
Court petitions, court accompaniments to civil and
criminal hearings and will promote a supportive
